Chongqing China

Located in southwestern China and nestled among the mountains, Chongqing is a city steeped in history and cultural heritage. As one of the country's four municipalities, Chongqing served as the wartime capital of China during the Second Sino-Japanese War and is home to many important historic sites and attractions. One of the must-visit attractions in Chongqing is the Three Gorges Museum, which showcases the region's history and cultural relics. With over 170,000 artifacts on display, visitors can learn about the ancient Ba and Yu cultures, the influence of the Yangtze River, and the city's role in the war. Another must-see site is the Dazu Rock Carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located about an hour's drive from Chongqing. These incredible carvings, dating back to the Tang Dynasty, depict Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian deities and provide a fascinating insight into ancient Chinese beliefs and customs. For a glimpse into Chongqing's traditional way of life, a visit to Ciqikou Old Town is a must. This charming neighborhood has narrow cobbled streets lined with shops selling local handicrafts, traditional teahouses, and sizzling street food stalls.
