The Optics Valley Suspended Monorail is one of the greatest achievements in urban transportation in Wuhan and we had a chance to ride this amazing system not long ago and was completely blown away by it. From the moment I set foot at the monorail station, I was impressed by the design of the structure and more so by the panda decoration on the trains that made the ride fun. The stations are also neat and tidy and the signage is very clear such that even a new comer can use the system easily. Getting on the monorail was without a hitch due to the good queue management system that was put in place. As the doors shut and the monorail started to move, I was filled with adrenaline. The ride is quite quiet and without much vibration, making the ride quite smooth. The windows are wide and offer a beautiful view of the city of Wuhan, the rivers, and parks making this not only a means of transport but also a vantage point. It surprised us most the way the monorail is able to transport people to different areas of Optics Valley without packing up the roads below. It was clear that many people used it to go to work or school and it indeed seemed to be an important part of the city’s traffic. The driverless technology provides an added level of safety and accuracy to the operational schedule which was clear as we moved from one stop to another. Another plus was the community feeling on the monorail. People of all ages and from different parts of the society got on the bus, talked, told stories and had a good time. It was more like a social club than a transport system, showing how the technology brings people together. A word for those who may want to board the monorail: During peak hours, the monorail can get quite crowded so for a peaceful ride, it is advised to board during off-peak hours. However, even when full, the mood is still cheerful. Therefore, the Optics Valley Suspended Monorail is a great example of a structure that not only solves the problem of transportation but also improves the quality of life and creates an amazing experience. It improves the transport connectivity and at the same time provides a spectacular view and a pleasant trip. This monorail is a must try for everyone in Wuhan and for anyone visiting the city, as not only a way of transport but as a clear manifestation of the innovative and environmentally friendly spirit of the city.
